I think this was one of the most popular projects we did! We started with a choice of three shapes for the head, the same body and a basic black shape for the mouth and from there, it was anything goes. My favourite part of these art classes is watching where the children take their ideas.
Mine turned into an old French artist monster yelling at the kids to keep off his lawn:

Many of the boys set their backgrounds on fire (as you do)
Meanwhile the girls got into the sparkles:
