Self Portraits in the Style of Modigliani

Amedeo Clemente Modigliani (July 12, 1884 – January 24, 1920) was an Italian painter and sculptor who worked mainly in France. He is known for portraits  in a modern style characterized by elongation of faces and figures.

We created our own self portraits using wax pastels on black paper in Modigliani's style

Hedgehog Heaven

This was a wonderful project where we drew out the hedgehog step by step and then used coloured pencils to personalise them. Great job all around!

Snails

This project was to get the girls in the extended class drawing! Ink and pencil drawings take a lot more concentration and attention to detail than painting (for the most part) so having them focus on these was a bit of a test which of course they passed with flying colours - or very slow colours because they're snails :)

No more templates for this group, these were all drawn freehand!

More to come :)

Harry Potter

This is one of those projects that has taken a lot longer than I had anticipated, but the results (which will continue to be added) speak for themselves. Ron, Harry and Hermoine are captured rugged up for Winter and wearing their house colours. Painted with acrylic on canvas, the students learnt a lot about taping off and creating a triptych.

Stay tuned for more!

Hamburgers!!

Hamburger time! I think collage is one of the most enjoyable activities we do in art class. This one was messy and sticky and delicious (sort of). The kids were handed buns and asked to cut out a plate to sit them on, then all rules were gone as we layered in meat, cheeses, beans and various brightly coloured salads to form these monumental towers of taste!

My example is below:

and here are the delicious treats made by the class!
